Award-winning artists from across the suburbs featured in new gallery exhibit The DuPage Art League is bringing back the “Best of the Best,” the renowned gallery exhibition, featuring the works of more than 50 award-winning artists from 12 suburban art organizations. The exhibit allows artists and art lovers an opportunity to view the work of artists who have been recognized by their peers. The exhibit will be open to the public from Aug. 2-26. An awards ceremony and artists reception will be held Sunday, Aug. 10, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the DuPage Art League, 218 W. Front St. in Wheaton. Judges will award ribbons and cash prizes to the best pieces. The exhibit can also be viewed Aug. 2-26 during the art league’s gallery hours, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. This year’s participating organizations are: Addison Art Guild, Artists’ Association of Elk Grove Village, Aurora Art League, Downers Grove Art League, DuPage Art League, Elmhurst Artists’ Guild, Lemont Artists Guild, Midwest Collage Society, Naperville Art League, Oak Brook Art League, Town and Country Art League, and Yellow House Artists. The DuPage Art League is a not-for-profit art school and gallery. Its mission is to promote and encourage the visual arts through classes, workshops, gallery exhibits, free public fine arts programs, and scholarships to students. It offers classes at all levels for adults and children; opportunities for artists to showcase their work through monthly gallery shows; free Monday Night Open Programs offered in partnership with the Wheaton Public Library; and a gift shop. It was founded in 1957 by Anne Miller, Ruth Watkins, Myra Bakke, Lee Jens, and Carole Fischer. In 1959, the League was incorporated as a not-for-profit organization by the original founders and was granted 501(c)3 status. Its stated purpose was “to promote art consciousness and provide a meeting space for painting sessions and kindred arts.” The DuPage Art League School and Gallery are located at 218 W.
